Gathering Time

A buried clock dug up2011  Peter Scott Gallery, Lancaster University

Gathering Time was an archive of Making Time, a year-long performance project in which we made a garden. It took the form of an exhibition, telling the story of that year through the objects that, for us, defined our experience. Boots, tools, seed packets and books were all used in the garden and throughout the year we hoarded the ‘treasures’ that we unearthed through the process of digging our neglected plot of land. These, displayed in the Manton Room, with its cabinets and museum calm, offered an opportunity to throw new light on the beauty of these everyday items; the mundane and the thrown away. We gave equal reverence to them all.
